First United Methodist Church, Gulfport is looking for a Worship Leader. Part-time, 5 hours, FLSA non-exempt.

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY: The Worship Leader is a spiritual, musical, and organizational leader who oversees the musical aspect of worship at First UMC. This position includes leading our community in worship on organ and piano and leading the choir for weekly anthems, ensuring each worship service creates opportunities for the congregation to experience God in worship. The Worship Leader will report directly to and work closely with the Pastor of First UMC.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead music for weekly worship services; prepare for and lead choir rehearsals; build a repertoire of music; assist the Pastor in planning the corporate worship services of First UMC; identify, recruit, train, schedule, appreciate, and retain volunteers, as needed; encourage the spiritual formation of the choir; ensure proper management, maintenance, and organization of instruments.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: The Worship Leader shall have a grounded and professing faith in Jesus Christ. He/she shall agree to uphold the Church Personnel Policies. He/she shall be familiar with or willing to become familiar with Wesleyan theology, United Methodist Church Polity and practice. He/she shall be committed to and seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth, willing and able to work with other staff/volunteers/areas of the ministries of this church in a collegial manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills: Excellent musical skills. Ability to lead the congregation in singing, alone and with the choir. Proficient and able to lead music with the organ and/or piano. Functional knowledge of or willingness to learn music/organizational software. Comfortable using the internet and social media as a communication and outreach tool. Must have a servant’s heart and a teachable spirit.

Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience working in a position with similar responsibilities and duties.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: To help the church live out the vision, mission, values and achieve the yearly goals. Reports to the Lead Pastor. Supervises volunteers (as recruited and needed). Major changes in job descriptions must be approved by the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).
